Huskies Clinics and Team-Sponsored Fan Events

Several University of Southern Maine Huskies' teams hold clinics/team-oriented fundraisers as well as fan  throughout the academic year.  Below you will find a list of clinics and/or events sponsored by our individual teams.  


Softball: 

Sunday, March 30 : USM Softball Full Day Clinic
  • Join the USM Softball team and coaching staff for its Full Day Huskies’ Softball Clinic on Sunday, March 30 and be prepared for the upcoming 2014 softball season.  The clinic is for softball players ages 8-14 and will be held at the Costello Sports Complex Fieldhouse in Gorham, Maine from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The Huskies’ Softball Clinic will focus on the fundamentals of hitting, pitching and field.  Team offensive and defensive concepts will also be taught.  Following the instruction, the clinic will end iwht a live situation games so you can put your new skills into action.   Players who register for the  clinic will have a chance to receive instruciton from USM head coach Sarah Jamo, Assistant Coach Bob Grinnell as well as members of the Huskies’ current team.  Coach Jamo set numerous individual and team pitching records during her four-year career as a player for Division I University of Maine.  Grinnell, along with his assistant coaching duties with USM, is the head coach for the Maine Thunder 18U Gold team – one of Maine’s most competitive travel teams. Sundays - January 26, February 2 & 9, March 9: USM Softball Winter Clinics
  • Join the USM Softball team its coaching staff for a series of four winter clinics and get yourself ready for the upcoming season. The clinics will run for two hours (8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.) and will focus on pitching and hitting.  Pitching - Players will have a chance to learn basica and advanced softball mechanics from Head Coach Sarah Jamo.   Coach Jamo is a former Division I player at the University of Maine.  During her time she set many team and individual records.  Hitting - Assistant Coach Bob Grinnell will lead the hitting portion of the clinic.  Coach Grinnell is the head coach for the Maine Thunder 18U Gold team - one of Maine's most competivie travel ball teams.  Cost: $20 each, $75 for all four  Registration Materials: Southern Maine Winter Softball Clinic

Baseball: 

Sunday - February 23 - 24th Annual USM Baseball Clinic
  • Join the Head Coach Ed Flaherty (842-379-4) and the USM baseball staff for this popular clinic on February 23 at the Costello Sports Complex Field House to get an early jump on your season.  Geared for players in grades 3-12, participants will learn proper pitching, defensive and hitting techniques from the Huskies' baseball staff and team. Clinic participants will perform various drills and will be evaluated and given instruction to make necessary adjustments to technique.  Cost: $50 each, $75 for all four  Registration Materials: Southern Maine Baseball February Clinic
Friday, December 27: Holiday Baseball Clinic with Ryan Flaherty of the Baltimore Orioles
  • Join Head Coach Ed Flaherty, the USM Baseball staff, and Ryan Flaherty of the Baltimore Orioles for a morning of baseball instruction and drills. The fundamentals of hitting, pitching, infield and outfield will be taught.  Ryan will be available to give autographs and give insight into what helped him get to the major league level.  He will also actively teach and work with players during the day. Women's Basketball: 

November 9, 2013: Huskies' Shooting Clinic
  • This annual and highly attended event is open to girls in grades 3-10.  The clinic will take place at the Costello Sports Complex from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.,  and will be instructed and coordinated by USM head coach Gary Fifield, the women's basketball coaching staff and players.  USM head coach Gary Fifield has led the Huskies to national prominence during his tenure, including five trips to the NCAA Division III Final Four. The fee for the clinic is $35 in advance or $45 the day of the clinic.  Participants are asked to wear sneakers and basketball clothing. Women's Cross Country and Track & Field:

November 28, 2013: 31st Annual Thanksgiving Day 4-Miler and Kids K

December 15, 2013: 14th Annual New Year's Classic (High School Track and Field)
  • Open to all high school track athletes - a great way to kick off the 2013-14 indoor track & field.  www.sub5.com
March 18, 2013: 17th Annual MTCCCA High School Coaches' Clinic 
  • This clinic is geared to track & field and cross country coaches of all levels.  Annually brings some of top names in track & field to the State of Maine.  www.sub5.com

Men's Basketball: 

November 3, 2013: Huskies' Shooting Clinic
  • Open to boys in grades 3-10, this annual shooting clinic will take place at the Costello Sports Complex from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  This well attended event is instructe and coordinated by USM head coach Karl Henrikson and members of the USM men's basketball staff and team members.  All facets of shooting fundamentals will be covered in this day long clinic.  Participants are asked to wear sneakers and appropriate basketball clothing  Registration Materials: Huskies' Shooting Clinic. 



Women's Soccer (Not Updated): 

September 19, 2012: Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day
  • USM women's soccer players will be inviting member of the University's faculty and staff to attend their game against the University of New England Nor'easters.  A post-game bar-b-que will be held. 
September 22, 2012: Friend & Family Appreciation Day - Kids' Clinic
  • USM Women's Soccer will host a free kids' clinic from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. prior to the day's games.  The clinic is open to children of all ages.  Children are encouraged to stay after the clinic, watch warm-ups and then escort Husky players onto the field for introductions.  No registration is necessary! Just attend and have fun. 
October 6, 2012: Youth Day - Kids' Clinic
  • USM Women's Soccer will host a free kids' clinic from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. prior to the day's game.  The clinic is open to children of all ages.  Children are encouraged to stay after the clinic, watch warm-ups and then escort Husky players onto the field for introductions for their 1:00 p.m. game.  No registration is necessary! Just attend and have fun. Walk over to the bench at 12:30 if you would like to walk out with the teams.  

 

Women's Lacrosse (Not Updated): 

NOT UPDATED -November 20, 2011: Husky Holiday Clinic
  • Open to all ages, skill levels and positions, the USM women's lacrosse team offers a skills clinic from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The cost for the day-long clinic is $40.00.  Attendees will receive individual and group instruction from members of the USM women's lacrosse team and coaching staff.  If interested register with head coach Lauren Reid at lreid@usm.maine.edu
NOT UPDATED -February 12, 2011: Love n' Lax Clinic
  • Open to all ages, skill levels and positions, the USM women's lacrosse team offers a skills clinic from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The cost for the day-long clinic is $40.00.  Attendees will receive individual and group instruction from members of the USM women's lacrosse team and coaching staff.  If interested register with head coach Lauren Reid at lreid@usm.maine.edu

Wrestling (Not Updated) 

NOT UPDATED -October 8, 2011: USM Fall Wrestling Tournament
  • Hosted by the University of Southern Maine Huskies wrestling team, this tournament is open to Elementary (K-6), Middle School (7-8), High School (9-12) divisions and an open female division.  [All divisions will be grouped by grade, weight and experience.]  The entry fee for the event is $15 per wrestler.  Please register with USM head coach Joe Pistone via e-mail at jpistone@usm.maine.edu  Head Coach Joe Pistone has coached USM for the past eight seasons and has helped mentor 29 All-New England and 28 All-Pilgrim League athletes.  He has also coached a USM wrestler to a berth in the NCAA Division III Natioanl Championship tournament in the last five seasons.  Registration Materials: USM Fall Wrestling Tournament.

January 20, January 27, February 3 & February 10, 2013: Pitching, Fielding & Hitting Winter Clinics
  • For players aged 8-18.  Work on developing the fundamentals of hitting, fielding and pitching with instruction USM Head Coach Sarah Jamo and the 2013 USM Huskies. Skills will be taught using different stations and drills.  Clinics  will be held from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. in the Costello Sports Complex field house. March 10  (High School Players); March 16 (Minor & Major Little League Players), 2013: Gear Up for the Season
  • Get ready for your upcoming tryout and season! These popular clinics will focus on all individual aspects of softball as well as team concepts and will feature live situational games. The fee for each session is $50 or $45 with four or more registrations from your team.  The clinics will take place at the Costello Sports Complex field house.  Each participant should bring a glaove and sneakers (no cleats).  Personal bats and helmets are recommended, however they will be provided if needed! INFORMATIONAL MATERIALSClinic Flyer | Registration Material
