Huskies Finish Third at 2011 John Queenan Memorial Tournament

 CASCO,  Maine –  Freshman A.J. Simokaitis (Falmouth, Maine) finished tied for second out of 30 golfers to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies golf team to a third place finish at the 2011 John Queenan Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by St. Joseph's College (Maine) at the Point Sebago Golf Resort in Casco, Maine on Tuesday.

         Simokaitis fired a team-best 74 to lead the Huskies to a third place finish out of six teams.  Simokaitis was just one stroke off of the leader, Husson's Tim Carlson.  Carlson shot a 73 to claim individual medalist honors.

         Husson University finished first overall with a team score of 296, followed by the University of New England with 321 strokes.  The Huskies totaled 334 strokes for their third place spot, while St. Joseph's College finished fourth with 341.  UMaine Farmington finished fifth (346) and Daniel Webster rounded out the team scoring in sixth (368).

         Freshman John Gagliano (Windham, Maine) and junior Joe Violette (Portland, Maine) finished in a two-way tie for 15th place.  Both golfers shot an 86 for the Huskies.  Senior Brett Kapetina (Stanford, Conn.) shot an 88 to round out the Huskies scoring and finish tied for 19th place.  Southern Maine's fifth golfer was junior Austin Brown (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South).  Brown turned in a 93 for the day to place 25th.

         Southern Maine returns to action on Sunday, September 25 (12:00 p.m.) when it hosts its annual USM Fall Classic at Gorham Country Club in Gorham, Maine.
