Grandinetti Named to NEHWA All-New England Team

GORHAM Maine -- The New England Hockey Writers Association announced Tuesday that University of Southern Maine junior defenseman Jon Grandinetti (Ottawa, Ontario) has been named to its 2011-12 Division II-III All-New England team following a vote by the region's head coaches and media representatives.

Grandinetti is the 11th Southern Maine player to be named to the All-New England squad since 1990.  Grandinetti adds the All-New England honor to the All-ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Men's East first-team accolade he received last month.

The 18-member NEHWA Division II-III All-New England team will be honored April 10 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass.

The second leading scorer among defensemen in the ECAC East this past winter, Grandinetti amassed 16 points on five goals and 11 assists in 18 league games.  The Huskies' second leading scorer overall, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound rearguard finished the season with 24 points on seven goals and 17 assists.  He shared the team lead with five power-play goals.

In his two seasons at USM since transferring from the University of New England, Grandinetti has played in 52 games amassing 30 points on nine goals and 21 assists.

Southern Maine finished the season 10-11-6 overall and 7-7-4 in the ECAC Men's East play.  USM, the sixth seed, advanced to the playoff semifinals by upsetting third-seeded Babson College in the quarterfinal round.  Eventual champion and top seeded Norwich University defeated USM in the semifinals 3-2.
