Jeff Soules Named to All-Little East Conference Second Team
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced that University of Southern Maine senior captain Jeff Soules was the Huskies lone representative among the 25 players named to the All-Little East Conference men's soccer team when the conference office released its end-of-the-season men's soccer awards Tuesday afternoon. Soules was named to the All-LEC second team following a vote by the head coaches.
This is the first time in his three seasons with the Huskies that Soules, a defender, has been named to the all-conference team.
"I'm very happy for Jeff. He really deserves this honor," replied head coach Mike Keller when asked for his reaction to the announcement. "He was a great leader throughout a very difficult season. He was the glue that brought everyone together after losing a teammate (Buddy Reid) in the middle of the season. Jeff played very well for a team that did not enjoy the success we hoped for, and I'm pleased that the conference coaches recognized him."
In 18 games this season, Soules scored one goal converting a penalty kick against Plymouth State University.
During his career with the Huskies, Soules played in 47 matches. He had three goals and one assist for seven points. The 5-foot-10 defender spent his first two seasons with the Huskies playing an outside back position before moving to the central defender role this season. During the 2010 season, he was picked as the Little East Conference Defensive Player of the Week on one occasion.
The Huskies finished their 2011 season 3-15-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the conference.
