UMass Dartmouth Rallies to Defeat Southern Maine 5-4
The win is the third straight for the Corsairs who improve their record to 9-2 with the win and remain undefeated in the Little East with a record of 4-0. The loss is the third straight for USM and the second consecutive 5-4 defeat. The Huskies are now 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the LEC.
Sophomore Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, Mass./Moses Brown) sealed the victory for the Corsairs earning a three-set win at fourth singles in a battle with USM junior Jonathan Sproul (Bristol, Maine/Lincoln Academy). Bejtlich defeated Sproul 1-6, 6-4 and 6-2.
USM freshman Thaddeaus St. John (Weld, Maine/Mt. Blue) scored the Huskies' lone point in singles action, earning a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at sixth singles. St. John defeated Corsair freshman Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, Mass.).
Southern Maine the doubles points. Sophomore Corey Dyke (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth Academy) and Zac Cary (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) earned a decisive 8-3 win at third doubles. Dyke and Cary downed the UMD tandem of juniors Cody Zygmont (Swansea, Mass./Case) and Mike Parker (Scituate, Mass.)
Southern Maine hosts Lyndon State on Sunday (11:00 a.m.) in a non-conference match. UMass Dartmouth hosts Bridgewater State on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) in a Little East Conference match.
