Western Connecticut Defeats Southern Maine 6-3
            DANBURY, Conn.   – Senior Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) and junior Samuel Holland (Falmouth, Maine) finished the day undefeated to highlight the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's tennis team in a 6-3 loss to Little East Conference opponent Western Connecticut State University Colonials Saturday afternoon at Westside Courts.

            With the win Western Connecticut improves to 3-4 overall, snapping a two-match losing streak.  Southern Maine drops to 0-2 on the spring season, playing in its first match since March.

            Curley and Holland combined for an 8-1 win at first singles defeating the WCSU tandem of freshman Aaron Campos (Ridgefield, Conn.) and senior Jason Hipona (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional), but USM found itself trailing the Colonials 2-1 heading into singles play.

            In singles action, Curley downed Campos 6-3, 6-2 at the top of the lineup, and Holland battled his way to a 6-4, 7-6 (7) victory over Hipona.  Husky freshman Andy MacEarchern (Nashua, N.H./Merrimack) nearly scored the Huskies' fourth point of the match, dropping a hard-fought battle 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 match to Western Connecticut junior Adam Howard (Waterford, Conn.). 

            Southern Maine hosts non-conference opponent Colby-Sawyer on Sunday (1:00 p.m.) at Deering Oaks in Portland.  Western Connecticut hosts Lehman on Thursday (3:30 p.m.) in a non-conference match.
