Foster Named LEC Track Athlete of the Week

GORHAM, Maine -- Senior George Foster (Lewiston, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's indoor track and field team has been named the Little East Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 6. Foster is the fourth USM athlete to earn weekly recognition from the Little East Conference this season.
Foster won the 600-meter run and ran a leg in the Huskies' first-place, 4 x 800-meter relay team to help the Huskies to a third place finish at the 2011 Maine State Intercollegiate Indoor Track and Field Championship. Foster won the 600 meters with a winning time of 1 minute, 22.68 seconds. In the 4 x 800 relay, Foster combined with sophomore Seth Neuts (Portland, Maine/Deering), freshman Julian Gazzelloni (Windham, Maine) and junior Ben Manning (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) to cross the finish line in 8:04.74.
Southern Maine returns to action on Friday (4:00 p.m.) when it competes at the Boston University Valentine Classic. The Huskies will also be in action on Saturday (11:30 a.m.) at the 2011 Little East Conference championships being held at the USM field house.
