GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine men's track and field head coach Ryan Harkleroad announced this week that juniors Colin Jones (Scarborough, Maine), Jared Marshall (Gloucester, Mass.) and C.J. Moody (Old Town, Maine), and senior Justin Pierce (Standish, Maine/Mt. Ararat), have been named captains for the 2017-18 indoor track and field season.

The Huskies open their 2017-18 indoor campaign this Saturday (12:00 p.m.) hosting the USM Open I at the Costello Sports Complex.

Jones earned All-Little East Conference and All-New England Alliance honors last year in the 800 meters and as a member of the winning 4 x 800-meter relay.  He also earned a spot on the LEC's Winter All-Academic Team.

The LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Year, Marshall won the LEC and Alliance indoor titles in the 55-meter hurdles and 200 meters, and was a member of USM's winning 4 x 400-meter relay.  He set the indoor school record in the 200 meters (21.94) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic last  January, and the outdoor record in the 110-meter hurdles (14.56) at M.I.T. in May.  After missing the 2015-16 indoor season due to injury, Marshall was picked as the LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Week three times last season.

Moody did not participate during the 2016-17 season as he was spending time aboard on academic exchange.  In his rookie season (2015-16), Moody received All-LEC and All-Alliance honors in the long jump, and Division III All-New England accolades in the heptathlon.  He also had the distinction of receiving LEC Rookie Track and LEC Rookie Field Athlete of the Week citations.

Pierce received All-LEC and All-Alliance honors in the high jump and joined Marshall on the winning 4 x 400 relay.  He was recognized by the LEC on three occasions last year as a member of the Relay of the Week.

The Huskies return 17 members from last year's indoor squad that swept the New England Alliance and Little East Conference championships, and had a 12th-place finish at the New England Division III Championships.

Following this week's USM Open I meet, the remainder of the Huskies' 2017-18 schedule is as follows: January 6, USM Open II; January 13, Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis; January 20, at Bowdoin Invitational; January 27, USM Open III; February 3, Quad Meet at Bowdoin; February 10, Alliance-LEC Championships at Providence, R.I.; February 16-17, New England Division III Championships at Middlebury, Vt.; February 24, Maine State Open at USM; and March 3, Last Chance Meet at Tufts University.
