Even Leads Huskies at Bridgewater State Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Junior Tim Even (Stoneham, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) won the 5,000 meters to highlight several strong performances by the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's outdoor track and field team at the 2011 Bridgewater State University Bears Invitational Saturday afternoon. The meet was a non team-scoring event.
Even claimed the top spot in the 5,000 crossing the finish line with a winning time of 15 minutes, 31.95 seconds. Even's first-place finish was one of six top-seven finishes for the Huskies.
Junior Brett Baker (Sanford, Maine) finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:56.34, while junior Cole Whitney (Topsham, Maine/Mount Ararat) and sophomore Parker Chipman (Pownal, Maine/Freeport) each earned third-place finishes.
Whitney finished third in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 6 inches. Chipman cruised to a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash crossing the finish line in 51.84 seconds. Chipman was closely followed by freshman Conor Sullivan (Scarborough, Maine) in fourth place with his time of 52.80.
Freshman Jon Clement (Berwick, Maine/Noble) also turned in a strong performance, placing seventh in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:19.84.
Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (11:00 a.m.) at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University.
