Southern Maine’s Davis Places Fourth in Decathlon at ECAC Championship

     BETHLEHEM, Pa. –  Senior Evan Davis (Fair Haven, Vt.) placed fourth in the decathlon to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's outdoor track and field team at the 2011 ECAC Division III New England Championships hosted by Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa.

     Davis' fourth place finish in the ten-discipline event earned the Huskies all five of their points at the championship.  Southern Maine finished in a six-way tie for 38th out 58 scoring teams.  Bates College won the team championship scoring 63 points, followed by Williams College in second place with 44 points. 

    Davis recorded a pair of second place finishes in two disciplines to highlight his competition.  Davis was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.22 second and in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters.  Davis scored 1378 of his 5422 points in those events.  Davis also finished tied for third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:44.99 and fourth in the pole vault clearing 3.14 meters (10 feet, 4.00 inches). 

    Senior Matt Harmon (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) and sophomore Ryan Storey (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) also qualified to compete in the ECAC Championships for the Huskies.  Competing in the hammer throw, Harmon finished 19th with a throw of 150 feet, 11 inches (45.99 meters), while Storey placed just outside of the scoring in 10th place in the high jump.  Storey cleared 1.86 meters (6 feet, 1.25 inches) in his event.

    The Huskies 4 x 400 team also competed placing 19th with a time of 3:22.58.  Southern Maine was represented by junior Jake Moore (Bridgton, Maine/Lake Region), senior Sean Lunsted (East Boothbay, Maine/Vacaville (Calif.)), senior Curtis Coleman (Bangor, Maine) and freshman Conor Sullivan (Scarborough, Maine).
