The Huskies finished as runners-up in the 2012 Little East Conference Championship. The Alliance meet features schools from the LEC and the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference. The Little East Conference scoring and championship are taken from the Alliance results. Southern Maine scored 140 points to finish second out of six teams in LEC scoring.
Baker claimed the top spot in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of nine minutes, 42.62 seconds. Gazzelloni recorded a winning time of three minutes, 56.40 seconds in the 1500-meter run. The sophomore was just three-tenths of a second off of the school record time of 3:56.10. Gazzelloni also earned a third place finish in the 800-meter run clocking a time of one minute, 54.61 seconds.
Seniors Mason Shepard (Portland, Maine/Deering), Tim Even (Stoneham, Maine/Fryeburg Academy), John Vallo (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) and Ben Manning (Jericho, Vt./Mt. Mansfield Union) each turned in performances worthy of second place finishes in Alliance scoring. Shepard took second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.56, while Even finished second in the 1500-meter run with a time of three minutes, 56.61 seconds. Vallo earned a second place finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:23.87 and Manning earned a second place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.98.
Senior Matt Harmon (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) had a third place finish in the hammer throw, clearing 48.81 meters.
Southern Maine competes at New England Division III Championships beginning on Thursday, May 3 (12:00 p.m.).
