Vallo Finishes Sixth as Huskies Place Fifth at Bowdoin’s Maine Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Senior John Vallo (Beacon, N.Y.) finished sixth in a field of 144 runners to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a fifth place finish Maine Cross Country Invitational hosted by Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine this afternoon.

         Vallo crossed the finish line after running the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:32.68 to lead Southern Maine.  The Huskies scored 121 points as a team to finish fifth out of seven schools at the meet.  Tufts University placed first overall with 35 points, followed by Bates College in second place with 56 points.  Bowdoin placed third with 60 points, while Keene State edged out USM for fourth place with 109 points.  Tufts' Matt Rand was the first runner across the finish line in a time of 25:05.99.

         Southern Maine senior Tim Even (Stoneham, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) placed 27th with a time of 26:26.28 and was followed by senior Brett Baker (Sanford, Maine) in 30th place with a time of 26:33.65.  Sophomore Julian Gazzelloni (Windham, Maine) finished 33rd clocking a time of 26:36.05.  The Huskies final scoring runner was Seth Neuts who placed 37th with a time of 26:43.57

         Southern Maine returns to action next Saturday (12:00 p.m.) at the Pop Crowell Invitational hosted by Gordon College.
