Cochran Picks Up Little East Conference Weekly Honors

GORHAM, Maine  – Senior forward Courtney Cochran (Waite, Maine/Woodland) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies women's basketball team has been named the Little East Conference Player of the Week.  It is the third time this season the Cochran has been recognized by the Little East Conference. Cochran was also named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) honor roll.

            Cochran helped Southern Maine to a 2-0 week and became the 20th USM women's basketball player to score at least 1000 points in their career with her 13th point of the first half in a 74-52 win over Plymouth State University.  In 24 minutes against the Panthers, Cochran recorded 18 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.  In the Huskies' regular season finale, Cochran notched her conference-leading 13th double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds in just 23 minutes against UMass Dartmouth. 

            Cochran leads the Huskies and the Little East in scoring and rebounding.  The 6-1 forward is averaging 18.1 points and 11.1 rebounds per game while shooting 49.4 percent (159-for-322) from the field.  Cochran was a 2011 first team All-Little East Conference selection.

            The second seed in the 2012 Little East Conference women's basketball championship tournament, Southern Maine (20-5 overall, 11-3 Little East) will face the winner of the no. 6 UMass Boston vs. No. 3 Keene State game on Friday (7:30 p.m.).  UMass Dartmouth is the fifth seed in the tournament and will travel to face fourth-seeded Western Connecticut on Tuesday (tba).
