GORHAM, Maine -- Junior co-captain Cinjin Goewey (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute) of the University of Southern Maine wrestling team has been selected to the NCAA Wrestling Scholar All-American team. The announcement was made prior to the start of the 2011 NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championship hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse.
Goewey, who earned All-New England honors wrestling at 141 pounds, finished his junior season as one of the Huskies top wrestlers with a 29-11 overall record, and a 13-4 record in dual meets. Goewey scored 57 points for the Huskies and had nine wins by fall.
Goewey becomes the fourth USM wrestler in the history of the program to earn the distinction. Goewey joins Mike Morin, Doug Christensen and senior co-captain Billy Cole (Madbury, N.H./Oyster River) as recipients of the honor.
