Talbot, Moody Earn LEC Weekly Honors

GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore Tegan Talbot (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) and freshman Sarah Moody (Scarborough, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies women's tennis team were recognized today by the Little East Conference for their outstanding play during the week of September 27 through October 3.
Talbot was named the LEC Player of the Week, while Moody earned the conference Rookie of the Week award. It is the first time that either player has earned weekly recognition from the conference. Talbot and Moody led Southern Maine to a 3-0 record last week, including a 2-0 mark in Little East Conference action.
Moody earned her award after finishing the week undefeated in her singles and doubles matches. Playing at the top of the singles lineup, Moody earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Thomas College's Lacey Leach, then helped the Huskies to a pair of conference wins over Rhode Island College and Worcester State University with victories at third singles.
Talbot finished the week with a perfect 3-0 in singles action and with three victories in doubles competition. In her first match of the week, Talbot defeated her opponent from Rhode Island College 6-0, 6-1 in straight sets at fourth singles. In her next match, playing two spots up at second singles, Talbot downed Danielle Breault of Thomas, 6-1, 6-0. She closed the week with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Worcester State's Mariah Tangney at fourth singles.
Southern Maine, 5-4 overall and 2-4 in the Little East Conference, hosts Colby-Sawyer College on Thursday (4:00 p.m.).
