GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced this afternoon that junior Hannah Patterson (Londonderry, N.H.) of the University of Southern Maine women's indoor track and field team has been selected as the Field Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance this past Saturday.
Competing in the Huskies' season-opening event of the indoor season, Patterson won two events, the 20-lb. weight throw and the shot put, and set one school record in the process to help the Huskies finish second among the three teams competing at Bowdoin College. This is the second time in her indoor career that she has received an LEC weekly citation.
In the weight throw, Patterson shattered the school record with a best mark of 15.17 meters (49 feet, 9 1/4 inches). She broke the previous record of 14.56 meters (47-9 1/2) set by Kelly Busby in February 2002. In the shot, she won with a throw of 11.11 meters (36-5 1/2). Patterson's mark in the weight throw qualified her for the New England Division III Championships, the NEIcAAA Championships and the ECAC Division III Championships. She also qualified for the N.E. Division III meet in the shot put.
Host Bowdoin won the meet compiling 174 points. Southern Maine was second with 121 points, and Westfield State University was third with 81.
The Huskies return to competition on January 8 when they host the USM Invitational.
