USM Women's Track Receives USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Designation

            GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine women's outdoor track and field team earned another honor recently when the USTFCCCA (United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) bestowed the distinction of 2012 Division All-Academic Team upon the squad.

            A total of 137 institutions earned the honor by compiling a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better.  The Huskies outdoor team roster had a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale.

            In addition to the team honor, three individuals, junior Molly Carl (York, Maine), senior Hannah Patterson (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman Hannah Wiley (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy, were among the 340 athletes representing 107 colleges and universities to be named to the USTFCCCA women's 2012 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Team.  This is the second straight year that Carl and Patterson have received the accolade.

            According to the USTFCCCA press release, "to qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

            Carl and Wiley competed at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships.  Patterson was ranked 21st in the nation indoors in the weight throw. A geography/anthropology major, Carl has a 3.79 cumulative GPA.  Wiley has a 3.62 GPA and is majoring in linguistics.  A recent graduate, Patterson received her bachelor's degree in criminology with a 3.85 GPA.
