Southern Maine Downs UM Farmington 3-2

            FARMINGTON, Maine -- Senior outside hitter Shannon Shuttle (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Regional) had a match-high 20 kills and 16 digs to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 3-2 win over the University of Maine Farmington Beavers in a non-conference women's volleyball match Tuesday afternoon at Dearborn Gymnasium.

            Southern Maine, which rallied from two sets down last Saturday to stun UMF, built a 2-0 lead (26-24, 25-15) before watching UMF take the next two sets (20-25, 24-26) to level the match.  In the fifth and deciding set, USM prevailed (15-6) to secure its second win of the season against seven losses.  The loss drops UMaine Farmington to 1-4 overall.

            Shuttle hit an outstanding .425 with 20 kills on 40 attempts and just three attack errors.  Shuttle also added 10 assists.  Junior outside hitter Hallie Noah (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage) had 21 assists and 11 service aces, both match-high totals, while freshman middle hitter Meghan Rumore (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) added eight kills, eight digs, six service aces and five assists.

            Junior outside hitter Emily Beebe (Bristol, R.I.) led the Beavers with nine kills, 11 digs and five service aces.  Senior setter Katie Allen (Bucksport, Maine) added 21 assists and 10 digs. 

            Southern Maine hosts the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Worcester State University on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).  UMaine Farmington hosts the University of Maine Machias on Saturday (2:00 p.m.).
