Brandeis Runs Past Southern Maine

WESTON, Mass. -- Senior Grayce Selig (Narbeth, Pa./Springside School) paced the field Friday afternoon to lead the Brandeis University Judges to a season-opening 15-48 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in non-conference women's cross country action at Weston (Mass.) High School.
Selig covered the 4,000-meter course in 14 minutes, 48 seconds to outdistance the remainder of the field by more than a minute and a half.
The Judges captured the next four spots to finish the race with a perfect score of 15. Senior Hannah Lindholm (Madison, Wis./West), junior Kate Warwick (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxboro), junior Erin Bisceglia (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug) and Ali Kirsch (Sharon, Mass.) all were credited with a time of 16:23.
Senior co-captain Carly Dion (Biddeford, Maine) was the first USM runner across the line in sixth place with her time of 16:25. Freshman Lily Sund (Clifton, Maine/Brewer), sophomore Molly Carl (York, Maine) and freshman Morgan Beede (Augusta, Maine/Cony) were the next three USM runners to cross the line, all in a time of 18:12.
The Huskies return to action next Saturday (September 11) traveling to Biddeford, Maine, for the University of New England Invitational. The women's race is scheduled to start at 10:45 a.m.
