Clifford MacWhinnie of Standish was one of USM’s original soccer players. A 1960 GSTC graduate, he played four years of soccer and basketball, and ran track in his senior year. He captained the soccer team in 1959 and was selected the squad’s most valuable player in 1959 and 1960. His daughter Lucinda, a 1984 graduate, also played basketball for the Huskies under Coach Richard A. Costello. He is a teacher at Cape Elizabeth High School.
