Richard “Butch” Beote- From 1952 through 1956, Richard “Butch” Beote was a common sight on both the basketball court and the baseball field at Gorham State. A four-year varsity letter-winner in both sports, Beote was a member of a slew of successful teams, and captained the 1955-56 basketball squad. Teammate Carl Winslow remembers Beote for his dedication and talent. “As a pitcher, he wasn’t a powerful fastball pitcher but a curveballer,” says Winslow, who also played with Beote in the Casco Bay and Twilight Leagues. “He was the kind of guy you couldn’t get off the field.” Beote, a 1956 graduate, is employed by J.Y.F. Inc. in Kennebunkport. He is a former president and CEO of Biddeford Savings Bank. Beote, of Kennebunkport, has long been active in his community. He has served as a director for the United Way, a trustee of the University of New England and Southern Maine Medical Center, and as a former treasurer of the Kennebunkport Historical Society.
