Frederick “Ted” Jackson, 1952- From his playing days at Gorham High School to his time on the baseball field and basketball court at Gorham State Teacher’s College Ted Jackson lived by the same rules of athletics- an unwavering dedication to his games and the schools he represented. Following his graduation from GSTC he moved on to coach, passing along the skills he was taught by his many coaches and, most of all, by his father. “One thing he said to me recently was very memorable,” says former teammate Henry “Pinky” True. “My father passed on many years ago,” he said, ‘but he’ll be proud when I’m inducted into the Hall of Fame that all the grounders and the baseball’s he tossed to me paid off.’” Jackson, a four-year member of both the Hilltoppers basketball and baseball teams, helped Gorham State win the 1952 NETCC basketball title. He is a retired school superintendent who resides in Portland.
