Kristi Potito Lary, 1990- Kristin (Potito) Lary was an accomplished two-sport athlete participating in field hockey and basketball, and was the first USM athlete to receive the Maine Sports Hall of Fame Award. She was a first team All-American in field hockey in 1988 after receiving honorable mention in 1987. She is still the school’s all-time leading scorer in field hockey with 131 points (60 goals, 11 assists) and holds four scoring records. She led the field hockey team to two ECAC tournaments, including the championship in 1986, and an NCAA Tournament final four berth in 1987 during her three-year career. Her skills on the basketball court were recognized as well. She was a first team All-ECAC and All-State, and honorable mention All-Little East Conference, and in 1989-90. She played four Little East championship teams and was a key member of the 1987-88 team that went to the NCAA final four. Lary received her degree in elementary education in 1990 and presently is a special education teacher at Traip Academy. She resides in Kennebunk with her husband Donald.
