Matt Gerken, MS, ATC, LAT, has served as head athletic trainer for USM Athletics since 1999. Prior to his appointment to USM, Matt was head athletic trainer and athletic training education program director at Colby-Sawyer College for nine years. He has been providing health care to student-athletes and clinical supervision and instruction to athletic training students since beginning his career at Bridgewater State College in 1977, again as head athletic trainer.
Matt earned his master's degree from Indiana University in 1977 and undergraduate degree from Plymouth State College in 1975. He has served as Vice President and President of the Maine Athletic Trainers' Association and has provided service and leadership to athletic training professional associations at the state and regional levels most of his career.
Matt was inducted into the Maine Athletic Trainers' Association (MATA) Hall of Fame in March of 2014 and more recently to the Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association's (EATA) '49 Club in January of 2018. The '49 Club is the EATA's designation for their Hall of Fame induction.
Matt will provide primary team coverage to the field hockey, women's tennis, men's and women's basketball, men's indoor track & field, softball and men's tennis.
