Lambert Selected as LEC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Huskies Scheduled to Play at UMass Boston on Tuesday

GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine junior right-handed pitcher Ben Lambert (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) was named the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 7th.  Lambert shared the weekly honor with University of Massachusetts Dartmouth sophomore Tucker Hetherman. The conference office announced the weekly awards Monday afternoon.

This is the first time in his two seasons with the Huskies that Lambert has received a weekly honor from the LEC.

Lambert combined with senior Jake Dexter (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) for a four-hit, 5-0 shutout of Eastern Connecticut State University in the opening game of the teams doubleheader this past Saturday.  The Huskies went on to sweep the twin bill winning game two 4-3.

Against the Warriors, Lambert allowed four hits and four walks over the first eight innings, while striking out seven to improve his season record to 4-0 and lowering his ERA to 0.81.  Eastern Connecticut's best threat against Lambert came in the sixth when the Warriors loaded the bases with one out, but the right-hander got a strikeout and fly out to end the inning.

In five appearances this season, Lambert has worked 33.1 innings allowing just three runs on 17 hits and 15 walks while striking out 35.  He is holding the opposition to a paltry .152 batting average.

Southern Maine, riding a four-game winning streak and winners in 12 of its last 13 games, is scheduled to travel to the University of Massachusetts Boston tomorrow afternoon (3 p.m.) for a Little East Conference game.
