Senior OF Batted .480 With 12 RBI in Five Games
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference today announced its final regular season weekly awards with University of Southern Maine senior outfielder Devin Warren (Smithfield, Maine/Messalonskee) being selected as the Co-Player of the Week. This is the second time this year, and the fourth time in his career, that Warren has received the weekly honor. He shared this week's honor with Nick Herzog of the University of Massachusetts Boston.
In five games last week (April 29 through May 5), Warren batted .480 (12 for 25) with seven extra-base hits, scored 12 runs, and had 12 RBI to help third-ranked USM go 5-0. Among the five wins was a doubleheader sweep of Plymouth State University that clinched the LEC regular season title and the top seed in the upcoming championship tournament for the Huskies.
Warren had four multiple-hit games last week. Against Bowdoin College, he had three hits, including a triple, scored four times and knocked in three. The next evening against Bates College, Warren was 4-for-6 with two doubles and scored four runs. In the doubleheader sweep of PSU, Warren was a combined 3-for-8 with four runs scored and five RBI. In the Huskies' regular season finale against Tufts University, Warren had two doubles and three RBI.
On the season, Warren is batting .346 (54 for 156) with a team-high 14 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 39 RBI. He has also stolen 13 bases.
Southern Maine, 32-5 overall, will host the 2019 Little East Conference Baseball Championship Tournament that begins Wednesday (12 p.m.) at Ed Flaherty Field. The Huskies will face sixth-seeded Castleton University in the opening game of the six-team, double-elimination tournament that runs through Saturday.
