USM Eliminated by UMass Boston at LEC Championship
GORHAM, Maine -- The top-seeded University of Southern Maine baseball team's bid for a Little East Conference postseason tournament championship came to an end Saturday evening when the Huskies were shut out by the second-seeded University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons, 2-0, at Ed Flaherty Field.
The Huskies finished the six-team, double-elimination tournament with a 2-2 mark, and are now 34-7 overall. The Huskies will wait until Monday hear on a probable at-large berth into the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. The Beacons, 29-11 overall and 3-0 in the tournament, advance to Sunday's championship round needing one win against in-state rival University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, to capture the title. UMD advanced to the championship round with a win over Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday.
