Seven Huskies Land Spots on All-Conference Team
Flaherty Voted Coach of the Year for the 10th Time

GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine junior right-handed pitcher Ben Lambert (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) became the seventh Husky pitcher since 1997 to be named the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Year when the conference announced its annual end-of-the-season awards and all-conference team Tuesday afternoon following a vote by the head coaches.

Lambert and six of his teammates landed spots on the all-conference first or season team.  Joining Lambert on the All-LEC first team from USM are senior second baseman Jake Dexter (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee), junior shortstop Andrew Olszak (Danvers, Mass.) and senior outfielder Zach Quintal (Eliot, Maine/Marshwood).  Receiving spots on the second team were junior third baseman Andrew Hillier (Bangor, Maine), junior designated hitter Dylan Hapworth (Winslow, Maine), and sophomore outfielder Sam Troiano (South Portland, Maine).  Dexter was also named to the second team at relief pitcher.

In addition, veteran head coach Ed Flaherty was voted by his peers as the Coach of the Year for a record 10th time in the 23 seasons of Little East Conference baseball (1997-2019).

Heading into this weekend's NCAA Regional Tournament, Lambert leads the conference in wins and ERA, and is fifth in strikeouts.  In 10 appearances this season, including nine starts, Lambert has fashioned a 9-0 record with a 1.14 ERA.  In 63 innings of work, Lambert has allowed just 41 hits and 27 walks while striking out 62.  Opposition hitters are batting just .182 against him.

A three-time first-team all-conference pick at second base, and a four-time pick as relief pitcher, Dexter is the Huskies' leading hitter batting .376 (67 for 178) with 13 extra-base hits and 32 RBI.  On the mound, the Husky closer has a 1-1 record with eight saves and a 2.08 ERA.

Olszak is making his first appearance on the all-conference team.  The slick-fielding shortstop is batting .355 (61 for 172) with 11 extra-base hits and 23 RBI.

Earning his second all-conference nod, Quintal is hitting .354 (51 for 144) with 13 doubles, four triples, four home runs and a team-high 44 RBI heading into the regional.  He also has a team-high 16 stolen bases.  Quintal was a second-team All-LEC pick in 2017.

A three-time All-LEC pick, Hapworth batted .318 (41 for 129) during the regular season with 12 extra-base hits and 30 RBI.  Hapworth was previously a two-time first-team pick in the outfield.

A pair of first-time all-conference recipients, Hillier is batting .357 with 12 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 31 RBI.  Troiano heads into the regional bating .319 (46 for 144) with nine doubles, one triple, a team-leading eight home runs and 31 RBI.

Southern Maine, under the direction of Flaherty, compiled a 34-7 overall record and won the LEC regular season title with a 14-2 mark.  In his 34 seasons at the helm, Flaherty has compiled a 1,038-457-4 record to rank fifth among active NCAA Division III coaches in career wins.

The Huskies will host an NCAA regional tournament that starts Friday at Flaherty Field.  The Huskies will take on New England College (25-15) in the opening game of the four-team, double-elimination tournament at noon.  Oswego and MIT will play in Friday's second game at 3:30 p.m.
