Dexter Selected to Play in NEIBA Senior All-Star Game
Flaherty to be Inducted into NEIBA Hall of Fame
GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine senior infielder/relief pitcher Jake Dexter (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) has been selected to play for the College Division All-Stars in the 45th Annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association's Joe Walsh All-Star Game that takes place tomorrow afternoon (Friday, May 31) at Dunkin Stadium in Hartford, Conn.
Also being honored will be veteran USM head coach Ed Flaherty who has been selected the 2019 NEIBA Division III Coach of the Year, and will be inducted into the NEIBA Hall of Fame. Flaherty guided the Huskies to a 37-9 record this spring, including a 14-2 mark and the regular-season title in the Little East Conference. During his 34-year career at USM, Flaherty has compiled a 1041-459-4 record.
A three-time All-Little East Conference first-team pick at second base, and a four-time pick as relief pitcher, Dexter finished the 2019 season as the Huskies' second leading hitter batting .373 (75 for 201) with 13 extra-base hits and 39 RBI. On the mound, the Huskies' closer had a 2-2 record with eight saves and a 1.49 ERA in 24 appearances. He pitched 36.1 innings giving up just 21 hits and three walks while striking out 39.
In four seasons with USM, Dexter batted .345 (234 for 679) with 43 extra-base hits and 104 RBI. The Huskies career record holder for saves, Dexter compiled a 16-9 record with 34 saves and a 2.08 ERA in 91 appearances (147.1 innings) on the mound.
