Nor'easters Down Huskies 2-0
GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore forward Casey Clark (Bethlehem, N.H./Profile) and senior forward Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine/Mt. Blue) each scored first-half goals to lead the University of New England Nor'easters to a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in non-conference game Thursday evening in Gorham, Maine.

            With both teams playing in their season opener, the Nor'easters start their season at 1-0.  The Huskies fall to 0-1 in 2011.

            UNE's Clark broke open a 0-0 stalemate late in the first half driving in a goal in the 31st minute.  Clark beat Southern Maine sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) with a driven shot from the right side of the circle.  Oswald gave the Nor'easters a 2-0 cushion in the 34th minute finishing off an assist from sophomore midfielder Hanna Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.). 

            With a two-goal lead at the half, UNE held the Huskies scoreless in the second half to earn the win.  Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Warren (Boscawen, N.H./Merrimack Valley) earned the win and her first career shutout making four saves.  Kennedy took the loss allowing two goals and making six saves in 65 minutes.  Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Fortin (Berwick, Maine/Noble) replaced Kennedy for the final five minutes of the game and did not make a save. USM freshman Eryn Nelson (Old Town, Maine) made a defensive save for the Huskies.

            Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (11:00 a.m.) at the Oneonta Invitational.  The Huskies will face Oneonta State.  UNE hosts Wheaton College (Mass.) on Saturday (11:00 a.m.)
