GORHAM, Maine – Senior back Bethany Bougie (Sanford, Maine) and sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies field hockey team have each been awarded weekly accolades from the Little East Conference for the week ending Sunday, September 18, 2011.
Kennedy was named the Little East Conference goalkeeper of the week after backstopping the Huskies to a 2-0 week with a pair of shutout victories. Kennedy stopped all 13 shots-on-goal that she faced this past week to record her third and fourth shutout victories of the season. Kennedy made six saves in a 1-0 win over the University of Maine Farmington and then made seven saves in a 3-0 win over LEC opponent Bridgewater State on the road. With her pair of wins during the week, Kennedy raises her current scoreless streak to 281 minutes, 59 seconds.

The Huskies' center back, Bougie coordinated the Southern Maine defensive attack to a 1-0 win over UMF and a 3-0 win over Bridgewater State. The senior, along with her teammates, did not allow a goal in 140 minutes of action. In the Huskies' 3-0 conference victory against Bridgewater State, Bougie earned her first points of the season, converting a penalty stroke.
Southern Maine is currently riding a four-game winning streak and is 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the Little East Conference. The Huskies will face fourth-ranked Bowdoin College on Tuesday (6:00 p.m.) at Brunswick, Maine.
