HENNIKER, N.H –  Senior forward Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) scored two goals to lead the New England College Pilgrims to a 3-1 win over the University of Southern Maine in a non-conference field hockey game Tuesday evening in Henniker, N.H.

         With its third win in a row, New England College improves to 10-8 overall.  The Huskies fall to 8-11 with the loss.

         Kutcha scored the Pilgrims first and third goals of the game.  Kutcha put the Pilgrims ahead 1-0 in the eighth minute when she hit a one-timer into the back of the cage off of an assist from senior midfielder Katherine Rich (Westborough, Mass.). 

         The Huskies rallied to tied the score up at one goal apiece when junior midfielder Rachel Trafton (Corinth, Maine/Central) knocked in her third goal of the season in the 18th minute.  Senior back Bethany Bougie (Sanford, Maine) assisted on the play.

         Rich assisted on the Pilgrims' second goal of the game and the eventual game-winner when she fed sophomore forward Rachael Hunt (Harwich, Mass.) for her first goal of the season in the 22nd minute. 

         Both teams battled through a scoreless second half, before Kuchta scored her team-leading 15th goal of the season late in the game.  Kuchta finished an assist from junior forward Jennifer Adams (Brimfield, Mass./Tantasqua) in the 64th minutes. 

         New England College goalkeeper Mary Roux made six saves to earn the win for the Pilgrims.  USM sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine/Windham) made 12 saves in the loss.

         Southern Maine travels to Western Connecticut State University on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) for its final regular season game.  New England College hosts Thomas College in the first round of the 2011 North Atlantic Conference field hockey tournament on Saturday (1:00 p.m.)
