Five Huskies Earn NFHCA National Academic Squad Honors

GORHAM, Maine –  Led by four-year recipients and senior co-captains Bethany Bougie (Sanford, Maine) and Haley Carter (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy), five member of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' field hockey team were selected to the 2011 National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad.  The National Academic Squad recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2011-2012 academic year. 

         Joining classmates Bougie and Carter was fellow senior Kayla Kimball (Winthrop, Maine) who is earning the honor for the second straight season.  Junior Rachel Trafton (Corinth, Maine/Central) and sophomore Ariel Kaplan (South Berwick, Maine/Marshwood) are also repeating as recipients. 

             Bougie and Carter are two of 95 student-athletes recognized by the NFHCA as four-year recipients for this season.  The 2011 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad includes 1,102 student-athletes representing 134 institutions.  There are nearly 4000 NCAA Division III field hockey participants spread out over 151 member schools.
