GORHAM, Maine – University of Southern Maine Huskies freshman goalkeeper Lindsay Pych (West Milford, N.J./Morristown-Beard) has been named the Little East Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 14. It is the first time in her career that Pych has earned weekly conference accolades and the second time this season a USM rookie has earned the award, joining classmate Samantha Elis (New Vineyard, Maine/Mt. Blue).
Pych helped Southern Maine to a pair of Little East Conference wins in a 2-1 week for the Huskies that included a pair of road games. In the Huskies' come-from-behind 4-1 conference win over Westfield State this Saturday, Pych made a pair of saves. In a 4-0 shutout win on the road at Framingham State, Pych again made a pair of saves to earn the first shutout win of her career. She is now 5-4 on the season with a 2.04 goals against average, which ranks fifth in the conference circuit.
Southern Maine, 7-7 overall and 5-3 in the conference, returns to action on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) when it hosts Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference game.
