GORHAM, Maine – Senior Shaun McKinnon (Rocky Hill, Conn.) has been named captain of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' golf team as announced by veteran head coach Reggie Grant, now in his 19th season with Southern Maine.
McKinnon, who begins his fourth and final season with the Huskies, has been a solid contributor, and consummate teammate as a member of the Huskies' squad.
"Shaun is the ultimate team player as he supports team members on and off the course," said Grant. "He is a resilient four-year player that has overcome his fair share of adversity, and still gave his very best. Shaun is well liked by all of his teammates, and leads by example, setting the bar high for his fellow golfers and holds us all accountable for team goals."
As a junior, McKinnon played in four matches, totaling six rounds, firing a season-best 81 twice during the season. McKinnon carded a career-best 74 as a junior during the 2016 season, averaging 82.5 strokes per 18 holes during the season. A history major, McKinnon has earned William B. Wise Scholar Athlete honors during his career.
Southern Maine opened its season this Friday (August 31), finishing on top in a three-way match with St. Joseph's College and UMaine Farmington. The Huskies will compete in numerous tournaments on the road this season, and will host its two-home tourneys during the Fall at Gorham Country Club. USM will host its annual Southern Maine Cup on Friday, September 28 (12:00 p.m.), and its USM Fall Classic on Sunday and Monday, October 7-8 (10:00 a.m.)
