Southern Maine Leads After Day One at State Championship
BANGOR, Maine -- Senior Mathew Mallett (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and junior Ryan Dee (Houlton, Maine) each carded an even par 71 on Saturday to help the University of Southern Maine golf team take the first-day lead at the 44th Annual Maine Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship being played at Bangor Municipal Golf Club.
The two-day, 36-hole event concludes with the final round on Sunday.
Southern Maine sits atop the leader board with a four-man score of 295, one shot ahead of the Husson University "Gold" team. The Husson "Green" team is in third place another shot back.
Jack Griffin of Colby College is the individual leader at the midway point shooting a 2-under par 69 on Saturday. Mallett and Dee are among three players tied for second.
