Southern Maine Takes Top Spot at UMF Invitational
WATERVILLE, Maine -- Junior Greg Kalagias (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and senior captain Shaun McKinnon (Rocky Hill, Conn.) each carded a 4-over par 74 to tie for the runner-up spot as the University of Southern Maine golf team took the team title at the 2018 University of Maine at Farmington Invitational played Saturday at Waterville CC (par 70).
Paced by Kalagias and McKinnon, the Huskies posted a team score of 300 to take the team title over nine other teams. Host UMF was runner-up at 312. Colby College and Husson University tied for third at 314. USM has finished first in three of five events this season, and been runner-up in another.
Completing USM's four scoring players were junior Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.) and senior Mathew Mallett (Kalamazoo, Mich.) with a pair of 76's. Junior Ryan Dee (Houlton, Maine) finished in a multi-player tie for 16th place after shooting an 80.
Colby College sophomore Jack Griffith (Simsbury, Conn./Westminster School) was the low medalist with a 3-over par 73.
Southern Maine will be back out on the links on Thursday (10 a.m.) playing in the University of New England Invitational being held at the Arundel GC in Kennebunkport, Maine.
