USM Runner-up at Mariner Invitational
AUGUSTA, Maine -- Senior Shaun McKinnon (Rocky Hill, Conn.) carded a 5-over par 75 to finish in a four-way tie for second place as the University of Southern Maine golf team took runner-up honors Thursday at the Mariner Invitational hosted by Maine Maritime Academy at the Augusta Country Club.
Husson University won the team title with a four-man aggregate score of 306. Southern Maine was five strokes back at 311 to finish second in the eight-team field. Colby College finished third at 317, and host MMA was fourth with a score of 323.
Nick Mazurek of Husson was the low medalist on the day with a 4-over par 74. McKinnon was joined in the tie for second place by Hunter Flynn and Riley Swanson of Husson and Jack Griffith of Colby.
USM junior Greg Kalagias (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) came home in sixth place with his score of 77. Classmate Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.) was all alone in ninth place with a 79. Junior Brendon Croteau (Lewiston, Maine) completed the Huskies' four-man aggregate with an 80.
The Huskies are back on the links over the holiday weekend hosting the annual USM Fall Classic at the Gorham CC on Sunday and Monday.
