USM Picked Second in GNAC Golf Championship Poll

            GORHAM, Maine -- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced Thursday afternoon the results of its coaches pre-tournament poll for this weekend's GNAC Golf Championship being played at Blackstone National GC in Sutton, Mass.  The two-day, 36-hole championship begins Saturday morning (9 a.m.).

            Defending champion Johnson & Wales University is the coaches' favorite to win the title garnering seven first-place votes and 79 total points.  Southern Maine was second with one first-place vote and 66 points.  The University of Massachusetts was third with 63 points.

            Rounding out the poll were St. Joseph's College with 53 points, Rhode Island College with 40, Worcester State University with 39 (including one first-place vote), Suffolk University with 37, Emmanuel College with 15 and Albertus Magnus College with 13.

            Southern Maine, led by juniors Greg Kalagias (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.), is seeking its first GNAC title.  The Huskies' best previous finish were runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2012.

            Blackstone National GC last hosted the GNAC Championship in 2012.  Worcester State is the host institution.
