Kalagias Leads USM to Top Spot at Thomas Invitational
OAKLAND, Maine -- Senior Greg Kalagias (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) carded an even par 70 to outdistance the field of 44 golfers by five strokes and lead the University of Southern Maine golf team to a first-place finish at the Thomas College Invitational played Tuesday at the Waterville CC.
The Huskies compiled a four-man aggregate score of 309 to take the team title by 11 shots over the University of New England. UNE edged Husson University by a single stroke, 320-321, to take the runner-up spot in the nine-team field. Thomas and Saint Joseph's College tied for fourth at 326.
Seniors Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.) and Kyle Morin (Lewiston, Maine) finished in a three-way tie for eighth place with Tyler Williams of Husson. Each shot a 9-pover par 79. Senior Brendon Croteau (Lewiston, Maine) completed USM four-man score contributing an 81 to tie for 13th place. Classmate Ryan Dee (Houlton, Maine) was one shot further back in a tie for 15th place.
Southern Maine is back on the links this coming Sunday when they return to the Waterville CC to play in the University of Maine at Farmington Invitational.
