Southern Maine Wins USM Cup for the Fourth Consecutive Year

Dee and Kalagias Combined for Low Score of 4-Under 67

GORHAM, Maine -- Seniors Ryan Dee (Houlton, Maine) and Greg Kalagias (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) combined for a 4-under par 67 as the University of Southern Maine Huskies won the annual USM Cup for the fourth consecutive year Friday afternoon at the Gorham CC.

The USM Cup is a unique event on the Huskies' schedule featuring pairs of golfers playing six holes of best ball, six holes of scramble, and six holes of alternate shot formats.  The tournament win was the fourth straight for the Huskies, and sixth in seven events, this season.

Southern Maine took the team trophy with a score of 204 as all three pairs posted scores in the 60's.  USM's team score was one shot off the event record set by the Huskies last year.

The University of New England was runner-up with a score of 217, followed by Saint Joseph's College (Me.) at 225 and the University of Maine at Farmington at 241.

A year after posting the event record score (7-under par 64), Dee and Kalagias successfully defended their crown with their 67.  Seniors Kyle Morin (Lewiston, Maine) and Parker Sanderson (Bangor, Maine) took the runner-up spot with a 3-under par 68, and classmates Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.) and Brendon Croteau (Lewiston, Maine) were third at 2-under 69.

The University of New England duo of Dylan Andrews and Hunter Drew also broke par coming in at 1-under 70.

Southern Maine's non-team-scoring combination of freshman Carter Burnell (Biddeford, Maine) and sophomore Jacob Currie (Lebanon, Maine) carded an even par 71.

The Huskies are back out on the links next Thursday (October 3) playing in the Maine Maritime Academy Mariner Golf Invitational at Augusta CC.
