Southern Maine Leads After Day One at USM Fall Classic
GORHAM, Maine -- Led by first round co-leader Parker Sanderson (Bangor, Maine), the University of Southern Maine golf team sits atop the leader board after Sunday's opening round of the annual USM Fall Classic being played at Gorham CC.
The Southern Maine Blue squad posted a four-man score of 303 to take a three-stroke lead over the University of New England. Castleton University and the USM Gold squad are tied for third in the seven-team field at 322.
Sanderson went out in 5-over par 40 before making the turn to shoot 2-under 34 on the back nine for a 74. Sanderson had four birdies against two bogeys on the inward nine. He shares the lead with Saint Joseph's College's Trevor Flanagan. Flanagan was 3-over par on the front nine, and even par on the back side for his 74.
Four players are one shot back including USM seniors Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.) and Ryan Dee (Houlton, Maine). Rounding out USM's four-man aggregate score was senior Greg Kalagias (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) who carded a 79.
The final round of the 36-hole event will be played tomorrow with the first group teeing off at 10 a.m.
