No. 24 Eastern Connecticut Surges Past Southern Maine 90-52


GORHAM, Maine   – Tarchee Brown scored 15 points to lead four players in double figures as the No. 24 ranked Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 90-52 in a Little East Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Hill Gym.

            With the win, the Warriors improve to 10-1 on the road for the 2017-2018 season and move to 13-2 overall while remaining undefeated in conference action at 5-0.  Southern Maine drops to 1-14 with the loss and 0-5 in the Little East.

            Brown was 6-for-12 from the field for his game-high 15 points, adding six rebounds, six assists and a blocked shot.  Kendall Marquez had 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers, while Jacob Collins added 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting off of the bench. Jake Collagan chipped in with 11 points, knocking down 4-of-7 attempts from the field.

            Junior Sean Jany (Westbrook, Maine) led USM with 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting in a reserve role.  He added five rebounds.  Senior Christian McCue (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) had nine points, while freshman DJ Anderson (Houston, Texas/Davis) and sophomore Keenan Hendricks (Owls Head, Maine/Oceanside) each had eight points.

            ECSU used a big first half to extend a 44-15 lead at the break.  The Warriors shot a red-hot 55.2 percent (16-for-29) from the field, and 54.5 percent (6-for-11) from three.  Brown had 11 of his 15 in the opening stanza, while Marquez had 10 of his 13.  With a commanding lead in hand, heading into the second half, ECSU outscored the Huskies 46-37 in the second half to cruise to the 90-52 win.  ECSU shot 52.3 (34-for-65) percent fro the field for the game and scored 32 of its 90 points off of USM's 21 turnovers in the game. 

            Southern Maine travels to Plymouth State on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) for a Little East Conference game.
