GORHAM, Maine – Junior guard Jayvon Pitts-Young (Portland, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's basketball team was selected to the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches' and Writers' Association (MMBCWA) Weekly honor roll for the week ending December 9, 2018.
Pitts-Young had a strong week for the Huskies over three games averaging 20.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists per game, while shooting 46.2 percent (25-for-54) from the field. Scoring in double-figures in each game, Pitts-Young had 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals against Plymouth State, and then had a 12-point, three-rebound, and three-assist performance against Rhode Island College. On the road at Bowdoin, Pitts-Young recorded his second 30-point game of the season, shooting 12-for-18 from the field for 30 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steals against the Polar Bears.
For the season, Pitts-Young is averaging a team-best 21.0 points and is shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. The 6-0 guard is also grabbing 4.4 rebounds per game, good for second on the team, and is dishing out a team-high 3.9 assists per game. Pitts-Young also leads the Huskies in steals per game at 1.4.
Southern Maine is off until December 30. The Huskies will compete in the Trinity Holiday Invitational December 30-31, facing Western New England on Sunday (7:00 p.m.).
