Bassile Nets Huskies Lone Goal

AUBURN, Mass. -- Sophomore Jack Sitzman's (Redondo Beach, Calif.) unassisted goal at 6:09 of the third period proved to be the difference as the Anna Maria College Amcats defeated the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies, 2-1, in a non-conference men's ice hockey game Tuesday evening at Horgan Arena.

The win extended the Amcats unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1), and improved their overall record to 4-1-2.  The Huskies are winless after five games, including three games by one goal.

The teams traded goals 54 seconds apart in the first period, then went scoreless until the Sitzman goal in the third period.  Sophomore Sam Cyr-Ledoux (Montreal, Que.) gave the Amcats a 1-0 lead at 16:15 finishing off a set-up from classmate Gavin Proeh (Highland Park, Ill.) and junior William McGoughran (Brunswick, Ohio) after a turnover.

The Huskies equalized less than a minute later as senior Ethan Bassile (Scarborough, Maine) found the net for the first time after assists from freshmen Curtis Judd (Saco, Maine) and Tanner McClure (Buxton, Maine).

After Sitzman converted a one-on-one for his third goal of the season to break the tie, the Huskies turned up the pressure searching for an equalizer, outshooting the Amcats 11-3 in the period, but AMC sophomore goalie Julius Huset (Oakdale,. Minn.) held his ground.  Huset improved his record to 2-0-1 making 26 saves.

USM junior goaltender Anthony D'Aloisio (Frisco, Texas) stopped 21 shots before being lifted for the extra attacker with a minute-and-a-half to play.

Southern Maine finished with a 27-23 edge in shots on goal.  Neither team was able to convert with the power play as each went 0 for 4.

The Huskies hit the road this weekend for a pair of New England Hockey Conference games at Suffolk University on Friday (7 p.m.) and Johnson and Wales University on Saturday (4 p.m.).  Anna Maria is off until next Tuesday (3:40 p.m.) when they take on Worcester State University at the Fidelity Worcester Ice Center.
