Hornblower Named LEC Defensive Player of the Week

GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced Monday afternoon that University of Southern Maine senior defender Sam Hornblower (Portland, Maine/Deering) has been selected as the men' lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending April 14.  This is the first weekly LEC honor in his career for Hornblower.

In the Huskies' only game last week, the two-time LEC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-conference selection (2016, 2017) scooped up five ground balls and caused six turnovers in USM's thrilling 10-9, sudden-death victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.  Hornblower also had the primary coverage on UMD's top scorer, Donovan Prozinski, holding him to one goal.  Hornblower also dished out one assist at the offensive end.

On the season, Hornblower has 20 ground balls and caused 21 turnovers in 10 games.  He also has four goals and three assists.

Southern Maine, 4-6 overall and 1-3 in LEC play, hosts Salem State University for a Little East Conference match Wednesday evening (6 p.m.).
