GORHAM, Maine -- For the third time in his career, University of Southern Maine senior men's lacrosse player Sam Hornblower(Portland, Maine/Deering) has been named to the All-Little East Conference first team following a vote by the conference's head coaches. The conference office released the all-conference team and major postseason awards on Thursday.
Returning after being granted a medical hardship waiver, Hornblower anchored the Huskies' defense. The two-time LEC Defensive Player of the Year (2106, 2017), Hornblower scooped up 32 ground balls and caused a team-leading 25 turnovers in 14 games, to go along with four goals and three assists at the other end. Hornblower regularly drew the opposition's top offensive player and proved to be a shutdown defender. He was picked as the LEC Defensive Player of the Week on one occasion this past season.
During his career, Hornblower played in 60 games collecting 173 ground balls and causing 96 turnovers. An offensive threat any time he had the ball, Hornblower scored 17 goals and dished out nine assists for 26 points. He is the first USM player to receive all-conference honors three times.
Southern Maine finished the 2019 season 6-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
