Hornblower Selected for NEILA East-West Senior All-Star Game

Game to be Played Friday, May 31st, at Johnson and Wales

            GORHAM, Maine -- The New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) announced on Wednesday the 54 standout senior athletes, including University of Southern Maine defender Sam Hornblower (Portland, Maine/Deering), for this year's East-West Senior All-Star Game that will take place on Friday (May 31) at Johnson and Wales University.  The game will start at 6 p.m.

            A three-time first-team All-Little East Conference, Hornblower is the first USM player selected for the all-star game.

            Returning after being granted a medical hardship waiver, Hornblower anchored the Huskies' defense.  The two-time LEC Defensive Player of the Year (2106, 2017), Hornblower scooped up 32 ground balls and caused a team-leading 25 turnovers in 14 games, to go along with four goals and three assists at the other end.  Hornblower regularly drew the opposition's top offensive player and proved to be a shutdown defender.  He was picked as the LEC Defensive Player of the Week on one occasion this past season.

            During his career, Hornblower played in 60 games collecting 173 ground balls and causing 96 turnovers.  An offensive threat any time he had the ball, Hornblower scored 17 goals and dished out nine assists for 26 points.  He is the first USM player to receive all-conference honors three times.

            Southern Maine finished the 2019 season 6-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
