BIDDEFORD, Maine – Callum Heaslewood scored the only goal of the game early in regulation to lead the University of New England Nor'easters to a 1-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's soccer game Monday night at UNE Blue Storm Stadium.
With the win, the Nor'easters earn their second consecutive victory to improve to 3-7 overall. Southern Maine drops its third straight to fall to 2-8-1 overall.
Heaslewood provided all the offense necessary for UNE scoring his third goal of the season in the fourth minute on a double-assist from Cody Kennedy and Dan Good. UNE outshot the Huskies 9-1 in the opening half, putting six on frame. Southern Maine put together a more even half in the final 45, outshooting UNE 7-6, but the Huskies' were unable to find the equalizer as Nor'easter goalkeeper Will Shearon earned the shut out making a pair of saves. Huskies' senior Simon Hulbert (Bar Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) made six saves in the loss.
Southern Maine returns to Little East Conference action on Saturday (4:00 p.m.) when it travels to UMass Boston.
