BOSTON – Yuran Teixeira scored a pair of goals, one in each half, to lead the UMass Boston Beacons to a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at James Cotter Field.
With the win, UMass Boston improves its record to 6-7-1 overall and remains unbeaten in the Little East Confernece at 3-0-1. Southern Maine slides to 2-9-1 overall and is 1-3 in the LEC.
Teixeira scored both of his goals on penalty kicks, scoring the game-winner in the 28th minute and securing the brace in the 85th to earn the Beacons' victory. The Beacons outshot the Huskies 15-12 on the game, and 8-5 in shots on goal. UMB also had a 7-2 advantage in penalty kicks for the contest.
UMass Boston goalkeeper Omar Castro-Dreher made five saves to earn the shutout victory. Southern Maine starter senior Charlie Mull (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) allowed a goal in 83:55 of action, while making five saves. Senior Simon Hulbert (Bar Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) played the final 6:05 making a save and allowing a goal.
Southern Maine hosts Keene State on Wednesday (7:00 p.m.) in a Little East Conference game.
